Seminars And Workshops


Every year the Centre organizes various regional, national and international seminars and workshops to dialogue, debate and generate knowledge on critical questions with following diverse concerns::

  • Developing Thematic Capacity on Focal Research Areas

  • Debating Contemporary Issues
    Mukta Salve Lecture Series in memory of Sharmila Rege (from 2012 onwards)

  • Building Theoretical Capacity in Women’s/ Gender Studies
    National and international lectures, meetings and seminars

  • Student Initiated/ Organized Workshops
    Chikitsa- annual National students seminar, Film festivals, Debates

  • Seminars/ Activities Organized for Student Enrichment
    Skill building workshops such as digital writing, critical annotation, Youth meets of undergraduate students, Modular workshops by professionals, Study circles, Special thematic lectures by eminent scholars in collaboration with colleges.

  • Comrade Kalindi Deshpande Memorial Lecture by Indu Agnihotri on ‘The Women’s Movement in India – The Challenges of Contextualization, Interpretation and Analysis’ and Brinda Karat on ‘Women’s Movement in India: Confronting Contemporary Challenges’ on 14 July 2010.

  • Public Lecture on ‘Merit ki Kahani – Chunauti aur Parivartan’ by Anoop Kumar on 27 July 2010.

  • Annual Research Workshop 1: Reorienting Caste and Gender Studies – Revisiting Knowledge, Institutions and Practices, 23-24 November 2010.

  • Annual Research Workshop 2: Addressing Gender in Research: Debates and Practices, 28 Feb and 1 March 2011.

  • Kasturba Gandhi Memorial Day - Book Release of Dr Aparna Basu’s book on Kasturba and a seminar on Status of Women in Kashmir by Dr Roshan Ara on 2 March 2011. Jointly organised by Gandhi National Memorial
    Society and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre.

  • Public Lecture by Prof Angela Yvonne Davis on ‘Prison Abolition and Feminism’ on 6 April 2011. Jointly organised by Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre and Navayana Publications.

  • Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Lecture by Prof Sukhdeo Thorat on ‘Emerging Demands for Group Specific Policies in India – Thoughts on Possible Reasons and Policies’ on 8 April 2011. Jointly organized by Dr Babasaheb Amebdkar Adhyasan, Dr Babasaheb Amebdkar Studies Centre and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre.
