ABOUT PUNE UNIVERSITY


Pune is the historical and cultural capital of the State of Maharashtra. The Historical seat of the great Maratha Empire, Pune was a strong hold Peshwas under the illustrated King Maharaja Chatrapati Shivaji’s highly distinguished and Nobel rule in the seventeenth century. Pune is easily accessible by air and train from all the major cities in India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hydrabad, etc. Pune is also well connected by international standard road network to cities in India. From Mumbai Pune is reached by Taxies and MSRTC Buses and private buses plying regularly through the ‘scenic’ Western Ghats in 3 to 4 hours.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE


The Department of Environment as a first step was introduced as an optional course in all the science departments. In view of its immense popularity, a one-year course, B.Sc. (Applied) was started in 1986, which was subsequently converted into a two-year full time M. Sc. course. This program covers major aspects of Environment including Water, Air, Soil and Noise pollution; their control technology; effects of pollution on ecosystem and management of Environment etc. The Department now a paragon of virtues, diligently abreast its students with vivid environmental aspects, their benefits and hazards. The Department also helps to acquire knowledge of Pollution Management and Ecological Balance Techniques which work shoulder to shoulder on par with international standards of Environment.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF SCHOOL OF ENERGY STUDIES


The energy crisis all over the world in the seventies warned the mankind and forced to think about the appropriate utilization of the energy resources on the earth for the sustainable development. In history, the energy crisis had led to many innovations as well as research and development programs in all sectors related to the energy. It is well known that energy sector has its own impact on the progress and development of any nation. The availability of various energy resources and in house capability to use it in the appropriate manner for productive development of a nation is the key factor in the economic growth of the country. Keeping this long term need in mind and with the vision of then university leadership, University of Pune has established School of Energy Studies in 1978 to cater the need of training manpower, to undertake research and development programs and extension activities related to conventional and non conventional energy sources.

The School of Energy Studies was established under the flag ship of University of Pune, to promote interdisciplinary research, development and teaching activities in the field of energy and renewable energy sources. The major objective of this effort was to bring and to bear, the expertise and facilities that are available in the various science departments on the university campus, for purpose of teaching and solving some of the frontline problems, both of basic and applied nature.
