Department of Environmental Science


The Department of Environment as a first step was introduced as an optional course in all the science departments. In view of its immense popularity, a one-year course, B.Sc. (Applied) was started in 1986, which was subsequently converted into a two-year full time M. Sc. course. This program covers major aspects of Environment including Water, Air, Soil and Noise pollution; their control technology; effects of pollution on ecosystem and management of Environment etc. The Department now a paragon of virtues, diligently abreast its students with vivid environmental aspects, their benefits and hazards. The Department also helps to acquire knowledge of Pollution Management and Ecological Balance Techniques which work shoulder to shoulder on par with international standards of Environment.

The Department of Environmental Science was first established as an interdisciplinary school of the University of Pune in1978. As a first step, Environmental Science was introduced as an optional course in all the science departments. In view of its immense popularity, a one-year course, B.Sc. (Applied) was started in 1986, which was subsequently converted into a two-year full time M. Sc. course.

This program covers major aspects of Environment including Water, Air, Soil and Noise pollution; their control technology; effects of pollution on ecosystem and management of Environment etc. The programme is design to provide for orientation towards Environmental problems and issues as well as in depth training and imparting skills in the various areas pertaining to the Environmental Science. The department has since then made an impressive progress in building up the infrastructure and in conducting teaching and research programs successfully.
