At the global scenario, advanced level research in basic science disciplines has crossed the boundaries and emerging as an interdisciplinary concept merging Chemical, Life, Physical, and Earth sciences area under one roof. This scientific research demands need for state-of-the-art sophisticated instrumentation support in order to work in high priority research area. To cater the need of researchers in different areas, the Central Instrument Facility (CIF) was established at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune in the year 2014 with the support from the university fund. The CIF, SPPU houses sophisticated analytical instruments which are operated and maintained by a dedicated and qualified group of Scientists and Engineers. This facility is extended to all the researchers from universities, academic institutes, national research institutes, defense institutes, and industries in Maharashtra.
The CIF houses the following sophisticated Instruments:
- Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (Liquid State 500 MHz NMR), Bruker (AVANCE III HD)
- Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (LCMS/MS),Bruker (IMPACT HD)
- Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GCMS/MS)Shimadzu (TQ 8030)
- Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), FEI (Nova NanoSEM 450) with Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), Bruker (XFlash 6I30)
- Single Crystal- X-Ray Diffractometer (SCXRD), Bruker (D8 VENTURE)
- Confocal Microscope, Nikon (A1R)
- Circular Dichroism (CD) Spectropolarimeter, Jasco (J-1500)
Objectives:
- To carry out analysis of samples received from researchers working in universities, research institutions and industries.
- To make available facilities to scientists to carry out measurements on sophisticated instruments not available in their own institutions.
- To initiate advanced level research in high priority areas.
- To identify priority research areas in emerging fields and to facilitate collaborative research.
- To provide intellectual input for research activities in both universities and affiliating centers on interdisciplinary areas of scientific research.
- To promote technology development.
- To organize a pool of experts from various scientific disciplines and make them available for research interactions.
- To provide specialized training for scientific and technical personnel for up-keeping, maintenance and essential servicing of instruments from undergraduate to post graduate Students.
- To act as a common platform for organizing short-term courses and workshops on sophisticated instruments as well as imparting hands-on training to research scholars, teachers, students and personnel from other laboratories, universities and industries.
- To develop skilled manpower and create expertise in specific area.
- To train technicians for maintenance and operation of sophisticated instruments.
- To participate in teaching of formal courses on instrumentation, conducted by other departments/agencies.
- To provide consultancy service in instrumentation to industry/Govt. departments/other institutions.
