Welcome to Department of Sanskrit and Prakrit Languages


The Department of Sanskrit and Prakrit Languages is one of the oldest Departments in the University of Pune. It is established in 1949, headed by the world renowned indologist Dr. R. N. Dandekar and followed by world renowned grammarian Dr. S. D. Joshi. At the beginning Veda and Vyakarana were the fields of Specialization in the Department. Afterwards the Department is enriched by other branches like Vedanta, Nyaya, Mimamsa, Sahitya, and Sahityasastra etc.

  • M. A. –Sanskrit, Prakrit and Pali.

  • M. PHIL.

  • PH. D.

  • CERTIFICATE COURSE - Sanskrit, Prakrit and Pali (One year)

  • JUNIOR DIPLOMA – Sanskrit, Prakrit and Pali (Two years).

  • SENIOR DIPLOMA - Sanskrit, Prakrit and Pali (Three years).
