The Centre for Energy Studies has following laboratory Set-Ups:

1. Study of solar Concentrators.
2. Study of solar hot water systems (FPC and ETC).
3. Study of solar hot air collector/ solar dryer.
4. Performance evaluation of box type and concentrating type solar cooker.
5.Study of heat pipe for solar thermal application.
6.Characteristics of Solar Photovoltaic system.
7.Determination of efficiency of DC/AC inverter.
8.Study of Lead Acid Battery as an energy storage.
9.Study of Performance of Solar water pump.
10.Flue gas analysis of petrol, diesel and LPG Engines.
11. Performance ratio of grid tied Photovoltaic System.
12. Determination of efficiency of boiler and analysis of flue gases.
13. Measurement of load and power factor for the electrical utilities.
14. Determination of efficiency of pumping system.
15. Performance evaluation of air compressors.
16. Performance assessment of horizontal axis wind mill.
17. Determination of calorific value, moisture content, and ash content in biomass sample.
18. Performance analysis of a biogas digester.

On-going Activities

  • To create an eco-system, which will spontaneously support the development of energy creation, storage, and consumption to establish the energy sustainability over a large section of population in alignment with sustainable development goals and net zero emission transition

  • Focus on
    1.Hydrogen production, storage and utilization.
    2.Recycling of materials for battery, solar cells.
    3.Build capacity to design and implement low energy buildings.
    4.Uniform distribution of electricity on grid.
    5.Help create standards for various energy consuming equipment.
    6.Capacity building of human resource in India for low carbon industry.
  • Development and Training of manpower ready equipped with solutions for challenges in adopting renewable energy sources effectively

  • Establishment of Training equipment and infrastructure for effective hands-on training in renewable energy conversion and energy storage.

  • Develop catalyzers for hydrogen from methane derived from biogas, ethanol steam reforming.

  • Develop recycling processes for batteries.

  • Explore various ways of utilizing solar steam for various products in an efficient way.

  • Introduce courses on Building physics (architecture and designs with energy minimization compatibility) .

  • Explore drone technology for gathering data for wind, solar and other parameters in remote places.

  • Use of AI and Machine learning in utilization, maintenance, predictions of various energy generating and storage devices.

  • Research and Development
    • CES-SPPU in association with other departments is working on new materials for efficient PV like perovskites etc.

    • Following research areas are targeted for research

    • 1.Flow cell batteries for stationary storage applications.
      2.Direct hydrogen generation from solar by in situ electrolysis.
      3.High temp water splitting.
      4.Chemical storage of energy through ammonia, Methanol etc..
