Promoting an interdisciplinary approach in teaching and research
Savitribai Phule Pune University established Interdisciplinary School of Science (IDSS) with a vision to promote interdisciplinary approach in teaching and research. The objective of the School is to establish dialogue and collaboration among various departments within and outside the science and technology faculty through teaching and research. As a part of this vision, IDSS launched three new and innovative courses in 2019:The coming together of these three courses under one roof also provide a fertile ground for innovative ideas and approaches.

The rationale behind these courses is very clear- to bridge the gap between needs of the industry and provisions of academics on the one hand and bring in multi-level innovation in the conventional courses on the other. Today, the employability and entrepreneurship quotient hinges on integrated and updated knowledge, multiple skills and,adaptability to fast changes. At IDSS, we focus on developing minds which can easily cross the boundaries of their disciplines and adapt to evolving situation. The course encourages students to apply the knowledge for problem solving and creative interventions.
Following a truly interdisciplinary approach, this 3 years bachelor’s course offers a range of subjects, projects and skills to build a strong ground for post-graduation and career in various fields. A unique and exciting course for a curious mind.
Mentored and designed by University of Melbourne, IISER Tirupati and University of Pune, the BSc Blended course is designed to enable the students to adapt multidisciplinary approach towards science. The course offers the students a comprehensive and integrated version of science with four options for specialization.
Grounded in the principle of 'empowering design', this two years Master’s course offers a multi-faceted education in design.The course opens career opportunities in various fields of design.
