DOCUMENTS ON EMPLOYMENT GUARANTEE ACT OF MAHARASHTRA

Introduction

The documents presented here have been collected by the research team of the Department of Sociology, University of Pune, who were evaluating Maharashtra’s Employment Guarantee Scheme in a research project from the years 2002-5. The team was led by Sujata Patel and consisted of the following: Anurekha Chari, Vishal Jadhav, Shaji Joseph and Sanjay Savale. In the course of the project, individual researchers collected specific documents related to EGS, and background material regarding the politics of actors, organizations and movements in Maharashtra which are included here. We also include documents given to us by the late Ajit Sardar of Yukrand which were part of his personal collection. Also included are documents given by Mohan Hirabai Hiralal of Vrukshamitra (Chandrapur).

We are extremely grateful to the late Ajit Sardar and Mohan Hirabai Hiralal for sharing these documents. We also thank Vishal Jadhav and Sangboi Gangte for help in classifying and cataloguing these documents and Pune Viscom Visual Communication for digitalizing them. Grants for this work were made available by the Centre for Social Sciences of the University of Pune.
