Specializing in Drug Discovery & Biofilm Inhibition

Principal Investigator

Dr. Gunderao H. Kathwate (Santosh H. Kathwate) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Savitribai Phule Pune University. His research program integrates Medicinal Chemistry, Microbiology, and Computational Biology to address the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance.

He focuses on the synthesis of novel bioactive compounds, particularly Schiff bases and tetrazoles, and investigates their efficacy in disrupting mature biofilms of recalcitrant pathogens like Candida albicans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Medicinal Chemistry Antibiofilm Strategies Molecular Docking Drug Repurposing Green Synthesis

Research Directions

Antimicrobial Development

Synthesis and characterization of novel small molecules (Schiff bases, thiazoles, and tetrazoles) as potential fungicides and antibiofilm agents.

Drug Repurposing

Exploring non-antifungal drugs (like Aliskiren and Tramadol) for their hidden capabilities in inhibiting fungal growth and morphogenesis.

Nanobiotechnology

Biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles and evaluating their synergistic effects with traditional drugs against resistant biofilms.
