Academic and Professional Experience:

                Education     :           B.A., LL.B.

Matriculation: 1887 ( Elphinston Highschool, Bombay )

B.A. : 1892 (Wilson College, Bombay).

Law (LL.B.) : 1895.

Law Practice:          Initially in Thane, 1895.

Employment:           First Class Sub-Judge, 1900. First appointment at Alibag.

Retirement: July 25, 1925.

Post-retirement engagements:

Chief Justice, Aundh State ( July 1931 – October 1940).

Speaker (Chairman) of the Assembly, Aundh State,1941.

First Class Honorary Magistrate.

Chairman, Land Mortgage Bank

Writings and Literary Work:

  1. Books (Total 19) in Marathi, on Vedic, socioeconomic and historical subjects.

Services in the Literary field:

1.      Elected to the Executive Committee of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad (M.S.P.), May 1926.

  1. Chairman, M.S.P. (July 1927 – June 1937).

3.      Contribution: accounting systematized, administration streamlined, involved in solving the knotty problems regarding Marathi script and grammar.

  1. Maharashtra Sahitya Patrika (a magazine) revived and he was editor of the periodical for eight years.
  2. Responsible for shifting the office of M.S.P. from Mumbai to Pune. Obtained land from the

6.      Maharaja of Aundh and built a building for M.S.P.

  1. President of Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, 1934, Baroda.
  2. An unofficial get-together of litterateurs and writers at Badalapur. It became an annual feature on the occasion of the death anniversary of his mother.

Educational:

1.      Guide for Ph.D. in Marathi at Pune University.

2.      External Examiner for M.A. Marathi, Bombay University.

3.      American students : William Morrison from Harvard University came to Badlapur for his doctorate work and stayed with N.G. Chapekar for three years. He studied the village taking the guidance of the book " Badalapur ".

Two more lady students studied the village for their degrees.

Honours:

  1. Chapekar Samsriti Granth (Commemorative volume). November 11, 1946. Presented to  N.G.Chapekar by D.V. Potadar, Chairman, Chapekar Samsmriti Samiti (The volume contains articles by eminent people.
  2. "Sukshmavalok": A degree awarded by Sankeshvar Math.
  3. Honorary D.Litt. awarded by University of Pune, 1966.
  4. Neel Phalak (A plaque) on his residence in Pune. The Pune Aitihasik Vastu Smrti and the Lokmanya Tilak Trust have taken up this programme to put up a plaque in memory of eminent people of Pune on their residence.
