Rajahkan   (A  sociological  study ) 1943

It  should serve as a  useful reference book for the sociological study of traditions of various castes of India. According to the author, such study would help wipe out the perverted image of Hindu Dharma. The book contains information on  seventy different castes which are from the princely states of  Baroda, Bhavanagar and  Travancore.

These tribes are not aware of  the Smruti scriptures. They have their own shastra. Katkari tribe as also certain castes in Gujarat do not need a Brahman priest for the marriage ceremony and last rites. In  most of the tribes (castes) divorce and  marriage of a widow are allowed. In Gandhrap  tribe, cousins (paternal) can marry each other.

Momin, Molesalam  and  Matia tribes follow both Hindu and Muslim religion. The author feels the Mahar (butcher) caste needs a separate and detailed study . This caste should not be considered as a part of untouchables in general because Mahar community has a special position in the rural social structure.
